In November 2019, Social Foundation achieved a significant milestone in women’s empowerment by establishing Social Foundation Self Help Groups (SFSHG) in Lisari village, Meerut. This initiative represented our commitment to creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural women.
The self-help group model focused on making women self-reliant, entrepreneurial, and economically empowered. We began with ladies’ garment production, providing women with marketable skills that could generate consistent income while allowing flexible work arrangements compatible with their domestic responsibilities.
This program addressed multiple challenges faced by rural women: limited income opportunities, lack of technical skills, and social constraints on mobility. By creating a local support network through the self-help group structure, women could learn together, support each other, and collectively access markets and resources.
The garment production focus was strategically chosen for its market demand, relatively low startup costs, and potential for skill development. This initiative laid the foundation for expanding women’s economic participation in the local economy.
