On April 5, 2021, Social Foundation provided crucial financial assistance to two widow workers, Salekha Begum and Topli, living in Jagdamba Camp, Malviya Nagar, Delhi. Each woman received Rs 2,000 to help address the severe financial difficulties they faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both women worked as domestic help, but pandemic restrictions prevented them from continuing their employment, creating immediate financial crises for their families. When they reached out to Social Foundation for support, we responded with direct financial assistance and committed to providing ongoing support as needed.
This intervention exemplifies our commitment to supporting society’s most vulnerable members during emergencies. Widows, particularly those in informal employment sectors, faced disproportionate challenges during the pandemic due to limited savings, lack of social security, and restricted mobility.
Our response combined immediate relief with relationship-building, ensuring these women knew they had ongoing support during the extended crisis period. This approach reflects our understanding that effective social support requires both emergency response and sustained engagement with vulnerable communities.
